Darren Brown

Running for Metchosin Councillor

What would be your highest priorities in the next four years to reduce the total energy use and emissions from transportation?

Lobbying for improved transit service for major commute route out of metchosin, currently the most express route from Metchosin and Duke goes up Latoria and out Happy Valley, then a transfer at Langford station. A bus ride downtown takes between 1.25 and 1.5 hours. If transit used Metchosin and then Sooke road the commute time would be cut in half.

Over the next 4 years, would you support increasing the space for walking, biking, and public transit and reducing that for private motor vehicles in your community? How would you do that?

Increasing space for walking and biking by working on connecting existing trails and providing new and improving existing trail and path maps

Would you actively encourage the provincial government to prioritize public transit, walking and biking infrastructure over roadway expansion projects such as the proposed interchanges on the Pat Bay Highway?

Sooke Highway needs attention and major initiatives like Mackenzie interchange need to be completed. There needs to be a balance but any opportunity to support transit, biking and walking should be encouraged

Do you support making walking safer and more enjoyable in Metchosin?

Yes, that being said it is pretty awesome already!

What specific policies, projects and expenditures would you support in the next four years to make walking safer and more pleasant in Metchosin?

Connecting existing trails and extending the roadside gravel trails

Do you support building a community-wide network of all ages and abilities (“AAA”) bike routes in the next four years?

The existing trails are pretty incredible.

Do you support building a AAA bikeway along Metchosin Rd?

I support extending the existing roadside multi use gravel paths. There is a challenge along Metchosin Road in some areas, and improving the shoulders through the Royal Bay gravel pit into prior to Metchosin could make riding that stretch a lot safer.

Would you support completing the 24/7 bus lanes along the Douglas Street/Highway 1 corridor, as well as along other routes such as the Pat Bay Highway as a high priority for municipalities and the BC government in the next four years?

Yes might want to focus on peak commuter times and also open to HOV if you really wanted an impact

Would you support keeping the E&N railway as a railway and actively campaign for electrified passenger and freight services?

I often bike the E&N rail trail, from the 6 mile area to downtown. The rail is in serious disrepair. I would support this but I do not think it is likely.

Would you support and actively campaign for street-level electrified rapid transit in the greater Victoria region? If so, along what routes?

Not in Metchosin

In the next four years, would you support removing the requirements for off-street vehicle parking from new and infill developments?

Not in Metchosin

In the next four years, how, would you activate and bring more people into public spaces within your municipality, including sidewalks, public squares, streets and parks?

Connecting existing amenities and providing trail maps and signage
