Running for Sooke Councillor

What would be your highest priorities in the next four years to reduce the total energy use and emissions from transportation?

To create contiguous sidewalks and bike lanes within the Sooke core. To increase the number of electrical charging stations in the District. To look at the feasibility of inter town public transit system ( Specifically for Seniors).

Over the next 4 years, would you support increasing the space for walking, biking, and public transit and reducing that for private motor vehicles in your community? How would you do that?

I am in favour of increasing space for walking, biking and public transit. The distances in Sooke are far to great to suppress private motor vehicles.

Would you actively encourage the provincial government to prioritize public transit, walking and biking infrastructure over roadway expansion projects such as the proposed interchanges on the Pat Bay Highway?

I have no problem encouraging the government to work on public transit, walking and biking infrastructure. However, Sooke has only one road in and out and the congestion is out of control. We need to work on an alternate route, which would be of benefit to both public transit and biking.

Do you support making walking safer and more enjoyable in Sooke?

Of course, hopefully everyone feels that way.

What specific policies, projects and expenditures would you support in the next four years to make walking safer and more pleasant in Sooke?

I have always been in favour of sidewalks, they need to be wide enough for walkers, strollers, wheelchairs, etc. They should be marked so that people know where the curb ends, handicap access ramps at all junction points. The sidewalks need to be lit up at night. Community enhancement policy would be a good start.

Do you support building a community-wide network of all ages and abilities (“AAA”) bike routes in the next four years?

At this time the current work in progress is developing trails throughout the community

Do you support building a protected bike lane on Otter Point Rd?

Definitely

Would you support completing the 24/7 bus lanes along the Douglas Street/Highway 1 corridor, as well as along other routes such as the Pat Bay Highway as a high priority for municipalities and the BC government in the next four years?

If it is revenue neutral.

Would you support keeping the E&N railway as a railway and actively campaign for electrified passenger and freight services?

I would love to have the railway up and running again.

Would you support and actively campaign for street-level electrified rapid transit in the greater Victoria region? If so, along what routes

parking from new and infill developments?

(candidate left blank)

In the next four years, would you support removing the requirements for off-street vehicle

In Sooke we have a real problem with sufficient parking in the town core. This needs to be looked and a solution found.

In the next four years, how, would you activate and bring more people into public spaces within your municipality, including sidewalks, public squares, streets and parks?

There are sufficient public and private events that bring people into Sooke
