Running for Sooke Councillor

What would be your highest priorities in the next four years to reduce the total energy use and emissions from transportation?

I would like to on a council that would like to embrace expanded public transportation . I hope the new council can explore the possibility of getting a local mini bus to shuttle people about town eliminating some personal vehicle trips and providing a local service.

Over the next 4 years, would you support increasing the space for walking, biking, and public transit and reducing that for private motor vehicles in your community? How would you do that?

Yes , I am running on the concept that we should carefully direct our growth in Sooke. While guiding smart growth also develop a series of paths that can be used for pedestrians, bicycles and other wheeled people powered transports. Sooke has some paths and trails but not really a network yet.

Would you actively encourage the provincial government to prioritize public transit, walking and biking infrastructure over roadway expansion projects such as the proposed interchanges on the Pat Bay Highway?

I don’t think I would prioritize walking and biking etc but believe roadway improvements should always come with expanded alternate transport methods such as buses, bicycles etc .

Do you support making walking safer and more enjoyable in Sooke?

I do

What specific policies, projects and expenditures would you support in the next four years to make walking safer and more pleasant in Sooke?

As mentioned above , a network of easily accessable and usable trails to connect all parts of Sooke would be a great start . An expanded board walk that connects at various places along the water front would be a project I am interested in pursuing .

Do you support building a community-wide network of all ages and abilities (“AAA”) bike routes in the next four years?

Do you support building a protected bike lane on Otter Point Rd?

Yes .

Would you support completing the 24/7 bus lanes along the Douglas Street/Highway 1 corridor, as well as along other routes such as the Pat Bay Highway as a high priority for municipalities and the BC government in the next four years?

Yes .

Would you support keeping the E&N railway as a railway and actively campaign for electrified passenger and freight services?

Yes , but another idea I have is you revamp the railway with modified buses that can travel on traintracks and then leave the tracks as a bus to drop off passengers at bus hubs. Then the train returns to the tracks, hopefully with a new batch of riders for the return trip. Starting small with diesel buses and a few trips a day , when monentum builds exoand to electric buses . Building an entire brand new rail system is really too expensive for our small communing population. If the idea takes off and becomes popular and busy then build a new rail line system . The frieght can akso travel on modified buses or use actual trains on the same tracks.

Would you support and actively campaign for street-level electrified rapid transit in the greater Victoria region? If so, along what routes

No , too expensive for our population at this time , it would cost too much and those costsi could never be recovered . In the future, yes .

In the next four years, would you support removing the requirements for off-street vehicle parking from new and infill developments?

I need more information on this to properly answer.

In the next four years, how, would you activate and bring more people into public spaces within your municipality, including sidewalks, public squares, streets and parks?

With more community activities , giving people a goid readon to engage and an easy way to get there is a win , win .
